2021 Triangle Frenzy - Block 1

Triangle Frenzy Month 1“Triangle Frenzy Sampler ”

Welcome to the start of our 2021 Web Sampler BOM “Triangle Frenzy”. This one is a blast from the past and was the first Web Sampler we offered with “As the Bobbin Winds”. Since 2010 it has been hanging up in our penthouse classroom and we frequently get asked for the pattern, so this year we decided to revive it and offer it again! We have some plans in the works to offer a triangle exchange so we can put a little bit of everyone into each other’s quilts. More on that in coming months.

Download the "Getting Started" Instructions and "Month 1" pattern Here.

If you want to purchase fabric here is the supply list

-          Background 4 to 4-1/2 yards

-          Assorted Colors 2 to 2-1/2 yards

-          Border & Framing 2-1/2 yards

-          Binding 2/3 yard

For this quilt you only need to know how to make (2) units Squares and Half Square Triangles! And I know you all can handle that!

Throughout the year we will showcase different ways to make HST’s here on the blog, as well was, how to use one block to create a quilt with extraordinary secondary designs, and even how to resize the blocks to make them bigger or smaller.

But first things first. We need to master the basic half square triangle. For this project we will need to make A LOT!! Of 2” Finished Half Square Triangles. Notice I said 2” Finished, that means once the unit is in the finished quilt it is 2”, the unfinished size of the half square triangles are 2-1/2”.

Layer (1) Background square on top of (1) Assorted 3” x 3” Square, right sides together.

Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the background Square.

Sew a 1/4” seam on both sides of the drawn line.

Cut in half on the diagonal line. Press towards the dark triangle. Square up blocks to 2-1/2” x 2-1/2”. Repeat to make a whole bunch! Trust me you do not know want to know how many.

Layout (36) HST Blocks as shown.

Sew units together into rows. Pressing seams in the direction of the arrows.

Sew rows together, pressing seams in the direction of the arrows to make (1) Block.

Month 1 Block should measure 12-1/2” x 12-1/2”.

Happy Quilting
