Proper handling of legacy BERNINA toolless latching arrays preserves the alignment of the underlying feed dog frames and mechanical components.

• Chassis Disengagement: Raise the needle bar to its absolute highest dead-center position using the handwheel. Apply firm, steady downward pressure on the rear right edge of the installed plate—on the designated concentric dimple marking—until the internal leaf-spring mechanism pops free. Pivot the plate upward to slide it out from the feed rails.
• Seating Protocol: Thoroughly remove any compressed lint nests from the feed dog tracks and bobbin race using a natural bristle brush. Align the forward interlocking tabs of the 033339.71.03 into the front frame slots, then press down firmly on the rear margin until it snaps completely flush with the free-arm bed.
• Manual Pre-Flight Check: Because legacy 130–170 series machines lack automated optical under-deck sensor eyes, they cannot electronically block a wide stitch width command. The technician or operator **must** manually limit the stitch width on the machine console to 0mm or select the straight stitch profile before activating the foot controller. Failure to verify this manual override will cause the needle to immediately strike solid steel, fracturing the needle shank and risking a misaligned needle bar timing failure.
