Our History

Loren Karen JaxIn 1998, Kevin and Leslie Main opened Country Traditions as a premier quilting and sewing shop, proudly nestled in Fremont, Nebraska’s Historic Downtown District. Over the years, we have grown and expanded, welcoming visitors from around the world.

When you step inside, you will find over 8,000 bolts of fabric, numerous books/patterns, notions, machines, and classrooms spread throughout the 20,000 square feet of this turn-of-the-century historical building. Our store boosts 14 foot ceilings, original wood flooring, exposed ceiling beams, the original freight elevator, and antique light fixtures suspended from a partial tin ceiling.

In 2005, Country Traditions was selected as one of the Top 10 Quilt Shops in the Spring 2005 issue of Quilt Sampler. In 2007, we were selected as one of the Best of the Best by Better Homes and Garden’ American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine. We were truly honored, in 2012, to be selected as the Encore Shop for the 2012 Spring Quilt Sampler issue.

In July, 2021, the business was sold to Loren and Karen Paquette. They have started to make the shop their own and have also changed the shop name to the Nebraska Quilt Company. With even more fabric selections, adding Bernina and bernette to the machine lineup of Brother, Pfaff, and Handi Quilter, as well as quarterly retreats, bus trips, and so much more. Come and enjoy the experience we have crafted just for our guests.
